Chapter 11: Manufacturing Footprint

Blow-Fill-Seal is a relatively compact manufacturing process in terms of the size of its line.

The filling suite only requires roughly 500 sq ft of space, as compared to a traditional line where the filling suite would typically be three times that size. In addition, the secondary packaging line for BFS can take as little as 1,200 additional sq ft.

Finally, the entire BFS process can take place in a single facility because its only primary material is pharmaceutical-grade resin, which is typically either low-density polyethylene or polypropylene.

Unlike other container materials, a plastic BFS container does not have to be manufactured in one facility, cut and shaped in another facility, and then filled and sealed in a third facility.
